Bismarck

The structure of the ship was begun 1 July 1936 in the Blohm shipyard und Voss in Hamburg. Bismarck accessed the battleship for the service in Kriegsmarine 24 August 1940 Lindemann captain Ernst became his commander. 28 September 1940 Bismarck left into his first voyage to Gdynia (Gotenhafen) which was supposed to be his principal parking port. The ship was donated along with Scharnhorstem, Gneisenau, Prinz Eugenem and Tirpitzem, for action being supposed to combine Royal Navy ships and in the process to enable the freedom of action for other individuals against supply convoys.

With order from 22 April 1941 commander of the flotilla admiral Günther Lütjens ordered the action the starting point Rheinübung. Flagship of the admiral of the fleet Bismarck and Prinz Eugen were supposed to break to the north Atlantic and to destroy the allied tonnage. Operational group – two battleships and the escort of destroyers – put to sea on 19 May, holding the route to Danish Straits. ships moored 21 May in the fjord in Bergen, where were detected by planes of Reefs. for detecting and destroying the German group Home Fleet commander admiral sir John Tovey appointed the armada into composition, which individuals entered for: Prince of Wales, King George V, Hood, Repulse and Victorious. on 22 May German battleships put to sea again being pointed to the north, to the so-called Danish Route. 23 May with left weir passed Iceland, achieving border of ice-cream, and chose the route to the South.During this manoeuvre Bismarck was noticed by the British heavy HMS cruiser Suffolk and Norfolk Island called then to the HMS aid, to which Bismarck opened the ineffective fire. on 24 May reached the meeting of the group German with Hood and Prince of Wales. In the course of the artillery duel the sunk biggest British ship stayed Hood but Bismarck were hit with three missiles of calibre of 356 mm. Damage caused min. limiting the maximum speed of Bismarck to 21 knots. Lütjens Eugen decided to swim to the port in the Nazaire.Prinz Sr. held the route on Brest which safely 1 June reached. In spite of numerous manoeuvres Bismarck didn’t manage to sever relations with British individuals which were equipped with radars. Bismarck fought the brief skirmish with Prince of Wales and with planes from the Victorious aircraft carrier. Into the pursuit of Bismarck, apart from ships already involved in action, the Admiralty left all individuals operating in this part of the basin: battleships Rodney and Ramilies, the linear Renown cruiser, the aircraft carrier of Royal Arks, Sheffield cruisers, London, Edinbourgh and the group of 21 destroyers.
In spite of such numerous pursuers of 25 May Bismarck managed to manouevre British ships and to sever relations
with the pursuit.Through 31 hours Bismarck swam unnoticed towards French ports. Of only 26 May at 10:30 Bismarck was located by the crew of the flying boat Catalina. A Swordfish plane attack turned out to be effective; one of torpedoes hit on helms of Bismarck which lost the ability to manoeuvre. For the help to Bismarck they sent U-booty operating in the Bay of Biscay. About 22:30 at first Polish ORP destroyer Lightning, and then discovered Zulu English of Bismarck. 27 May at 08:43 of the commander King George V and saw Rodney of damaged Bismarck. They still joined Norfolk Island and the heavy Dorsetshire cruiser to these ships. A fierce battle ensued. About 09:31 the heavy artillery on Bismarck went quiet. Englishmen stopped the fire at 10:16. About 10:25 the heavy Dorsetshire cruiser fired torpedoes in the direction of battleship 2, and into the moment then third. Later Bismarck started plunging ten minutes sie in the sea, what fell down up all over with keel and sank. From 2220 sailors hired on Bismarck 115 shipwrecked persons saved themselves.
Final determination what caused sinking Bismarck is dubious. Englishmen claim,
the battleship sank as a result of hitting by torpedoes fired from the Dorsetshire cruiser, however
Germans think, around the flotation of the ship until the end wasn’t endangered, and the battleship sank to the effect
of launching by the crew explosive charges put in the gout of the ship.
